Baby Giraffes at Prague Zoo

Baby Giraffes at Prague Zoo

On the 25th of January, a female baby giraffe was born in the Prague zoo, and is already gaining a lot of attention from visitors and photographers! Faraa, her mother, escorted the not-yet-named baby to the exposition that occurred on the Tuesday following her birth, as the crowd was eager to see her and give her their warm welcome.
A veterinary inspection confirmed that the baby giraffe is doing well and that she’s adapted just fine to her new surroundings. She was named “Modelka” by the breeders, but that’s just temporary. On the 13th of February, another giraffe was born, this was the 84th giraffe born at the Prague zoo. Her mother Eliska, 24 years old and her father, Johan aged 29, are from the Netherlands. Eliska also gave birth to Anna in 2016, whereas Johan is Modelka’s father, too.
Since the beginning of 2019, some other animals have given birth, the rodent Chacoan Mara, a close relative to the Patagonian Mara from a South America, and the Lechwe, an antelope who inhabits the wetlands of South Africa.
